About Us...
Utopia is an all-star pom and dance team comprised of girls from
the St. Louis area. Members are chosen through a try-out
process to practice and perform with the squad for one
competition season. In this, our 15th year, Utopia has 36 girls
ranging in age from 7-20 years old. Our commitment to provide a
positive atmosphere where each dancer is challenged to achieve
her personal best, both on and off the competition floor, is built
on a strong foundation of family, friends, and the desire to give
back to the community. It is our goal to develop, through the
sport of all-star dance, well-rounded individuals who display high
levels of self-esteem and self-confidence, respect for self and
others, and sportsmanship.
The first competing unit for Utopia began practicing in June of
1995. In November of that year, Utopia went to Kansas City, MO
to compete in its first state competition. Utopia won the state title
that year and continued to win state titles in both pom and dance,
encouraging the team to set its sights higher. In July of 1997,
Utopia traveled to the University of Notre Dame for the first
opportunity to compete at the national and world level. First
attempts again proved successful, for the girls captured both the
Grand National and World Pom Team and Grand National and
World Dance Team titles.
Utopia currently competes at the juvenile, junior, senior, and
college levels. Utopia girls have had the privilege to meet and
compete against teams from France, Poland, Japan, Canada,
and the many from across the United States. The girls have
made local appearances and have performed at charitable
events in the St. Louis area. During the school year, Utopia girls
instruct aspiring dance team members through a weekly UDT
Prep Class. In the summer, Utopia hosts an annual dance camp

Utopia girls are AMAZING individuals and often participate in
activities outside of the group. The girls excel in the classroom,
contribute to various teams/clubs outside of dance, and serve as
role models within the community. Many of the girls are also
cheerleaders or dance for their high school squads. Our college
ladies make us extremely proud, and we look forward to them
rejoining us during the summer months. Utopia alumni have
been or are current members of the University of Missouri
Golden Girls, UMSL Flames, Southeast Sundancers, and the
Missouri State Diamond Girls.
Since its inception, Utopia has been coached and
choreographed by Tiffany Wedel. She is assisted by junior level
coaches Andrea Cassani and Becky Henley, and by juvenile
level coaches Libby Houghton and Laura Liszewski. Click below
